The Raritan Inn was approved for a 120' freestanding wind tower. The Bergey Excel* http://www.bergey.com/Products/Excel.html 10 Kw model would support the additional energy needs of the B & B when combined with the existing photovoltaic arrays. The site is at the middle of a 26 mile long by 4 mile wide valley that creates its own winds through convection currents. The average wind speed is 5.5 mph. Tracking is currently underway with an anemometer on the barn cupola and a static IP address for reporting to the NAHB Research Center. The green bands on this NREL map show the applicability of wind as a viable renewable resource. We continue to petition the NJ DEP for permission to use this natural resource; our application is still pending.
